Benefits Covered Sleep Support in Ontario

Can Sleep Support Be Covered by Insurance in Ontario?

Yes. In many cases, families in Ontario may be able to use their extended health benefits toward sleep support services provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

At Have Baby. Must Sleep., many of our team members are Registered Social Workers with specialized training in pediatric sleep. Depending on the program you choose and your individual benefits plan, some or all of your sleep support may be eligible for reimbursement.

For many families, this means getting expert sleep support with little or no out-of-pocket cost.

Two Ways to Access Benefits-Covered Sleep Support

We offer two insurance-eligible options, allowing you to choose the level of support that best fits your family's needs.

Registered Social Worker Sleep Support

Work one-on-one with a Registered Social Worker who is also a certified pediatric sleep consultant.

This option is ideal for families looking for one professional who can support both their child's sleep and the broader emotional and family factors that often influence sleep success.

More Than Sleep

Our signature More Than Sleep program pairs you with two dedicated professionals:

  • A certified pediatric sleep consultant focused on your child's sleep

  • A Registered Social Worker providing emotional and mental health support throughout the process

Your consultant and social worker work together behind the scenes, creating a coordinated plan that supports your entire family, not just your child's sleep.

What Is Included?

No matter which option you choose, you'll receive comprehensive, personalized support that may include:

  • A customized sleep plan

  • A thorough intake process

  • Virtual consultation

  • Ongoing text support

  • Regular check-in calls

  • Personalized guidance based on your child's age, temperament, development, and family goals

Depending on the program you choose, your support may also include dedicated mental health sessions, emotional support, and collaborative care between your sleep consultant and Registered Social Worker.

Why Does It Matter That Your Sleep Consultant Is a Registered Social Worker?

Sleep challenges rarely affect just sleep.

They can impact:

  • Parental mental health

  • Anxiety around sleep

  • Postpartum wellbeing

  • Relationships

  • Confidence

  • Family routines

  • Stress around feeding and daily life

Registered Social Workers are trained to recognize and support these broader challenges while helping families build healthy, sustainable sleep habits.

This unique combination of sleep expertise and mental health training allows us to care for the whole family throughout the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can sleep support be covered by insurance in Ontario?

Yes. Depending on your benefits plan, all or part of your program may be eligible for reimbursement when services are provided by a Registered Social Worker. Coverage varies by provider and plan.

Is the entire program covered?

Coverage depends on your individual plan. Some families receive reimbursement for the majority of their program, while others receive partial or full reimbursement for eligible services. See the different program options here.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Most extended health plans do not require a doctor's referral for Registered Social Worker services. We recommend confirming the requirements with your insurance provider.

Do you only offer More Than Sleep?

No. Families can choose between working directly with a Registered Social Worker who is also a pediatric sleep consultant or participating in our More Than Sleep program, which combines a dedicated sleep consultant and Registered Social Worker.

What is the difference between the two programs?

Our Registered Social Worker Sleep Support program provides one professional with expertise in both pediatric sleep and family wellbeing.

Our More Than Sleep program provides two specialists working collaboratively throughout your journey, one focused on sleep and one focused on mental health.

Can I use my Health Care Spending Account or Wellness Account?
